nyoil revisited
nubian on Nov 29th 2006
i am so sick that people support this guy. he gets a 48 minute radio spot with a popular deejay and he practically kisses ny oil’s ass in support of his “message.” if you care to listen, much of what ny oil rambles on about, is how black men need to be “real” men (whatever that means)–in fact, most of the interview is centered on that. neither of the three men who speak, including ny oil, address structural issues regarding black men–furthermore, black women, it seems, are not even a part of the picture when it comes to “saving” our community.
click here to listen–it takes a while to load. sorry (via sondjata)
i’m just curious though, why do some folks support nyoil’s request for lynching black folks, but were all up in arms when kramer said the same mess?
i just don’t see the difference. seriously.

Media wars - the word is our weapon!
First there was the launch of the English version of Al Jazeera and now there is the launch of France 24 on 6th December, which will operate 24/7 on a multimedia platform eventually in 4 languages. It starts 100% in French, 75% in English, by the end o…
Nubian, I don’t think he actually wants black men to be lynched. I think he was just using that “term” as a way to bring attention to his message. I understand your concern with the homophobic terms, I think he was wrong to say those words as well as the N word.
As far as his concentrating on the changes that black men need to make in our community, I think he has a point. WE, black women, grauduate from college, hold down steady jobs, and have fewer substance abuse problems than black men. Don’t forget that NYOIL is a man, therefore it is only natural for him to want to concentrate on the issues of black men.
that “term” is so much more than a term, so much more than just a word. is it really okay to use the symbol of lynching as an attention-getter? what is the benefit?
i think a lot of people agree with you that he had a point, but it gets lost in such a hateful spiel, one he is unwilling to see may be problematic.
“therefore it is only natural for him to want to concentrate on the issues of black men.” is it? and how do you separate black men’s issues from black women’s?
THANK YOU FOR SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! I AM SICK OF NY OIL AND COUNTLESS OTHERS LIKE HIM SPEWING THEIR IGNORANT, MYSOGINIST, RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC, ASININE, HYPOCRITICAL VIEWS UNDER THE GUISE OF “UPLIFTING THE COMMUNITY!” I especially love the part where he essentially blames young black women for the downfall of young black men- i.e. why is it that when a black man comes back from college “nigga ain’t shit” but when he comes from jail we’re “all on his dick”?.. riiight. First of all i resent the implication that black women are just falling over themselves for the chance to sleep with common criminals- also CLEARLY AS MEMBERS OF THE SEX CLASS OUR ONE PURPOSE IN LIFE IS NOT ONLY TO ‘GIVE UP THE PUSSY’ BUT TO GIVE IT UP FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY! Puh-leeease! AND IF I HAVE TO SIT THROUGH ONE MORE POMPOUS DIATRIBE ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF YOUNG BLACK MEN AND HOW THEY’RE THE FUCKING CENTER OF THE COMMUNITY AND ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF SUPPORT AND ROLEMODELS SO THEY CAN STAY IN COLLEGE AND OUT OF JAIL I’M GOING TO BORTCH! I’M A 19 YEAR OLD BLACK FEMALE- WHERE THE SHIT IS MY SUPPORT?! WHO ARE MY ROLE-MODELS? BEYONCE? OPRAH?!… thanks alot. And no! I’m not trivializing the difficulties black men face, but guess what?! black women face many of those same issues on top of the (often life-threatening) burden of just being a female in a male-centric, euro-centric society. Yes, I’m comparing the two… and yes, women have it worse. [wow, it feels good to finally get that off my chest] ALSO, NY OIL’S “MESSAGE” GETS MORE THAN LOST IN HIS HYPOCRISY! “And if you brag about killing your brothers you’re bullshit!”… swiftly followed and preceded by “Y’all should all get lynched.” Even if he claims it’s just a poetic device employed to convey his anger [which is bullshit]- advocating lynching your fellow brothers and sisters (an inhumane practice with an especially painful historical background) makes you just as bad if not worse then all those bullshit rappers blathering about gun-violence and street cred. Not to mention- his rhymes are fairly wack. If he insists on continuing to make music and if he truly wants to represent positivity and progress within the black community then he needs to completely revamp his entire style and amend his backwards views. To use NY OIL’s own misguided admonition: “Is this the best you could come up with? You ain’t shit!”.
To be perfectly honest in my opinion, NY OIL (New Yorks only International lover) is an attention seeking convuluted individual and a sexist one to boot!
Ask him a hard question and he runs away, ask him about the main issues, he runs away, or retorts, I’m doing the work, you are talking
Ask him what he’s done, aside from, agree with Kramer, sleep with women he didn’t because they liked his shirt or whatever ohhh and make a stupid song.
Has he volunteered time, books money, effort to up lifting his people?. Has he put his time and effort into learning how to help his people?. Did he protest the tax breaks of the rich which most of his people will not benefit from?
oh no… he made a song. a stupid, ididotic, lame ass, song.
A song which pretty soon racist tools will be using to justify their language.
oh and I knew it was going to get there, the ‘I’m more concerned about our men’, let’s concentrate on our men.
And the women?… oh no they don’t count. Cos once the men handle their biz, they will make the women fall in line.
Cos you know, the women will follow where the men go (sic)
NYOIL is bo different to those he villifies, he had amessage somewhere at some point but this is 99.9% just like the rappers he wants strung up.
I wish I could use sarcasm to be like omg, he’s telling it like it is but I’m too tired to have a sense of humor, so I just think that guy’s a toolbag
I would never advocate censorship but an ignorant person with a microphone and a listening audience is a dangerous thing. I agree 100% that is no more acceptable for NYOIL to use lynching as a remedy for tired-ass rappers than it is for Kramer to refer to it in order to silence hecklers.
Can we have some new rhetoric about helping the black community? Please? Pretty please? The shadows of Booker T., DuBois, and Garvey are kinda tired. They wanna rest. You know, in peace.
@ sylviasrevenge- What is your sugestion?
@Blithe dammer- He mad a point about women flocking to thugs. Beleive me, I hear women saying ” I don’t like a man who is to nice” all day every day. I think Nyoil’s point is a lot of men behave like thugs because so many women say that they want thugs(very true).
@ Soul- We as black women need to group togeather to deal with our problems, then open up the floor to get their intake.
exactly sylvia—
it’s funny folks always bring up garvey, booker t, malcom, martin…and those folks. BUT what about a fannie lou hamer or an ella baker???
And Sojourner and Ida B.!
Stacy, I don’t think guys understand that saying, “I don’t want a guy whose nice all the time” means “I want a guy who pays visits to jail and then occasionally sleeps over.” That’s more of a communication disconnect than a widespread societal problem, and I don’t think black men go to jail for the nookie — regardless of what NY OIL says on the matter.
And as far as my suggestion, I can’t pretend I have some universal solution to “save the race.” But I do think the black community should unify and work to eliminate oppression inside and outside our community. The more work we do towards unifying with other races/cultures, the easier our own individual and collective mobility will reach everyone. The “stand by your man/play Victorian virgin” message to black women should stop. The community mindset with the block parties and the collective childrearing should be stronger. Black men should start confronting problems on their own and not blame the white man or the black woman for his own vulnerability. There needs to be more communication, more connection, more respect, and more cooperation on all sides.
or it doesn’t mean that*, rather…
Booker T., DuBois, and Garvey are kinda tired.
For reasons that should be obvious I find that comment to be “tired” given that most people have no clue, but think they do, regarding the philosophies of those individuals.
I wasn’t saying they were tired in the way of saying they’re useless; I was saying they’re tired in the way of needing rest.
Also, I don’t think you give people very much credit for what they do or do not know. Neither does NYOIL.
@sylviasrevenge- I don’t agree with the Victorian image either. I do beleive that women should think long and hard about who they choose as fathers of their children, and who they are going to share their body with.
I agree, stacy. I also think heterosexual men should think long and hard before sticking their penises in someone because of the possibility of impregnating a woman and shouldering the responsibility of fatherhood. Each group has its own cross to bear in the responsibility plane, and each has its own truths to confront — which is why they need to come together and not divide because someone thinks the dominant lingo of faggot-bitch-lynch-nigga is okay.
I think the best thing we can do as black people is teach each other — young, old, gay, bi, trans, straight, male, female — the importance, value, and power of respect for each other and for ourselves. Respect spawns appreciation, and appreciation leads to more critical thinking about our personal choices and how our personal choices affect others. No single person can stop the rest of America from viewing blackfolk as a monolithic entity, and no single person can stop every black person from doing something others find damaging or embarassing or detrimental. But I think if people focused on some very common, noncontroversial themes like self-love, mutual respect, courtesy, fruitful discussion, outreach and cooperation, we’d make way more inroads.
I also think the way up isn’t tearing each other down. NYOIL mentioned in his interview that being positive doesn’t mean being soft. But being positive doesn’t mean castigating people, either. Bouncing from one extreme to the other will work only for a short time.
Plus I don’t care what the Boondocks series said on the subject, “bitches” is not a general term for women and “niggers” is not a general term for ignorant motherfuckers. And contrary to popular belief, “faggot” is not a general term for any [commonly straight] male who does something you don’t agree with. NYOIL isn’t going to change that, even if he couples these words with a message of when Jesus is coming back.
stacy…
We as black women have always ‘grouped’ together to sort out our shit!.
look through your history and you’ll see…
we did that during slavery, we raised babies that weren’t ours.. jesus christ we suckled babies that grew up to abandon, hate or sometimes if they were massa’s children… rape us.
we’ve been handling ourselves since the dawn of time, let’s face it the black race would not have survived without it’s women.
we are and have always been a tower of strength and for our efforts we keep getting villified and accused of the most banal shit.. even when disguised as saving ‘us’
We don’t need saving. We;ve been doing fine all by our damn selves.
And what intake are we supposed to be getting?.
please clarify.
What you fail to understand is this. Words are powerful as well as actions.
NYOIL came in here guns blazing, he acted as if he just disccovered that the earth was flat and thus wanted to broadcast this by beating his chest and screaming about it.
when asked why, he accused everybody of just talking and not doing what they need to do.
He should be ashamed of himself.
He came out with some lass ass validation reasons which always pointed the finger outward and not inwards.
he said girls slept with him because of his polka dot shirt.
What he failed to look at was:
He slept with a woman because she liked his polka dot shirt!.
It’s a bloody 2way street.
But the one of the most dispicable things this sorry excuse for a black man as done so far (and yes I am referring to NYOIL) is this:
participating and using one of the most humiliating and debasing scenes of a black woman to further his own agenda.
He cared not a jolt about that woman beyond the fact that he wanted to use her image for furthering his agenda. An agenda which even he is too simple to accurately define.
He does the same thing that every egotistical clueless macho bullshitter does.
Which is allow his ego to consume and machismo consume him and at the same time diminish those who have been struggling in the grassroots as well as his best chance at unity. WOMEN
He advocated that certain women deserve what they get!. why are some women supporting this?. Really?.
He took that woman in that movie and raped her soul bare for the whole world to indulge in.
He didn’t care for her at all, as if what she has been through isn’t humiliating enough..
this NYOIL, this ‘brotha’ who cares soo much didn’t bloody care enough to actually try to find out where the heck this woman is. Who is she?. this isn;t the usual forray of black porn. So where is she?. what happened to her?
But he doesn’t give a hoot. All he cares about is the attention he can get from proposing a stupid notion which even he can’t defend.
You said up thread that you think he was using the word ‘lynch’ as a metaphor right?..
well many of the rppers say exactly the same thing.. that they use their words as metaphors ..
becasue ‘bitch’ doesn’t really mean female dog in rap.. it means ‘weak person’
‘my n***h’ means homie
showing your ice means I’m rich
using erotic dancers means I’m sexually open
brandishing a gun menas I’m tough
rapping about ho’s and bitches means I’m talking about weak good for nothing hood people
So why are you willing to take these rappers at face value and not NYOIL.. I mean this is comeing from a guy who is calling himself New Yorks only internayional lover
Blithe Danner- THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soul- Amen I still love you
And on the fannie lou note. I think she may honestly be one of the most beautiful souls to ever live.
Nubian I can’t even muster up anything anymore for this. On facebook private school thugs are talking bout his deep message while ” ballin g and flossing” at PREP SCHOOLS.
and if we’;re just talking WHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING!
ARG
Greetings,
Lot of anger here. Cool.
The video is out there. In circulation, heard by hundreds or thousands a day. The man did what he thought needed to be done. Honestly, whether you like the video or hate it, doesn’t matter. Quite honestly. You all know the saying about Opinions…
The question is, now what?
If you felt the message is worthy, then use it as a tool to spread and spread it further. DO IT.
Soul(not to single you out, but you seem to have the strongest presence in this forum), you seem to have very strong emotions about the negativity that you find in this video. If you care about the black community (as I assume you do) and feel that it is detrimental, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
But then again, if you do something about it, then he’ll have achieved his goal…
Whatever your prespective is, the one truth is that the people who really need to hear and participate in this discorse, don’t participate in this blog. As intellectuals We have to get out of the ivory tower and hit the streets.
NYOIL delivered his message in the most frequented format for the mass youth… music. He wanted the product to get out there quickly and efficiently, and it did. He didn’t have to wait for people to search for it in a blog, It’s not being communicated in a book behind sophiticated academic language. I don’t expect a 13- 14yr old to pick up Fanon or Woodson and be enlightened. I never expected a 13-14yr old to listen to lyrics from dip-set or lil kim either, but they do…
Maybe, just maaaaaayyyyyybeee a few kidz/people who need to grow up will take a few of the names he dropped and type them into google, Or ask one of us about them… maybe.
I enjoyed the critiques… but they would probably be better applied to more notable rappers on their fan websites and blogs, where the fans frequent. This way, they’ll actually see what you have to say. and you can discuss with them if you choose. Be prepared for a frustrating experience. (Maybe you’ll understand why NY felt he needed to go so hard on this song, lol). Even so, its still more effective than discussing it amongst ourselves. You don’t plant seeds in a spot where a tree is already growing…
Last but not least, two clips. If you’ve not seen it before, I present Cam’ron and Dame Dash on the Bill’O Riley show (I’m not a fan of his by the way), working hard to sink the black community to a new low.
See it here

On a lighter note, Mississippi MC David Banner speaking at a National Black Caucus Luncheon.
Peep that here.

@ Khalil Gibran
I saw that O’Riley clip. I could not believe that Cammeron Tomed like that. I just don’t get how a grown man can behave in such a manner for all the world to see. He embarrased himself, his parents and his people. You know Bill O’Riley already thinks we(blacks) are a lazy, backwards, stupid group of people anyway, and here this fool goes giving his best buckdance and a suckle foot for the world to see. Damn shame.
@Triz said….
If you care about the black community (as I assume you do) and feel that it is detrimental, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
But then again, if you do something about it, then he’ll have achieved his goal…
You see that is the most irritating presumption about this whole NYOIL crap. The presumption that you and he have made that We’ve/I’ve been sitting on my royal throne waiting to be told what to do (probably like he was waiting). And that quite frankly is presumptuous, ignorant and incredibly arrogant.
I am bloody doing something, I have been doing something way before NYOIL decided to give up fucking people becasue they liked his polka dot shirt! or becasue he was a rapper. Bloody hyell as a black woman I was raised to always do something! because fact is, you can’t rely on anyone else to save you and yours.
And with stupid presumptions like this, it proves that my doing something is incredibly unappreciated by the likes of you and NYOIL.
Just because NYOIL has decided to get off his ass to talk about doing something, doesn’t mean that the rest of us have been sitting on ours.
I most definitely have NOT been sitting there waiting for someone to save me and my community
And if you look at the stats you will find that many black women DO NOT wait around for someone to come and save them.
Whilst NYOIL was busy fucking people for his self esteem, we were busy studying for ours.
Whilst NYOIL was busy watching black women give a brother a second chance after coming out from jail - we were busy giving that brother a second chance, encouraging, supporting even to the detriment of ourselves.
When NYOIL finally got some sense in his brain to go get a degree so he could be a beneficial member to his community, we were busy:
- protesting the laws which other people were trying to enforce to make it harder for people like his tired ass to get into school
- Creating opportunities in our neighbourhoods by mentoring young women and men
- Creating programmes in our communities to help uplift them
- working for non profits in the hopes that we can divert those accessible funds to our communities
- Disseminating information about opportunities for business grants to help that brother get college grants, helping proces applications, type letters
- creating programmes at our high profile jobs which lead to study/work programmes for inner city youth
- Doing what is necessary (and sometimes ugly) to get that paper, because people like NYOIL (the international lover) couldn’t man up and take care of business like they were supposed to do, too busy being ‘rapper’
We were taking care of business so that little NYOIL’s won’t grow up to want for anything.. or at least not for much.
So when he finally got that degree that we got all those years ago.. that degree that we’ve been using to build more, put into a programme, sponsor a child..
This lame ass gets that degree and thinks he’s God’s gift and wonders why all the women are running from him..
the best he comes up with is.. black women don’t want educated brothers? really?.
You mean black women really like being blamed for earning too much, for running the house, for being able to afford to drive a big car, for using our brains and heck even for using our bodies if we have to, in order to get our children by and damnit sometimes to get ourselves by?.
Yeah right!
Why does NYOIL think that he is the first one enlightened to our problems and that we have been sitting around in a coffee room high 5′ing ourselves with our intellectual superiority… WTF is that about?
You know only on these pages can I get accused of Not being an intellectual on one hand and then of being an intellectual on the other.
When all I am is: A black woman who gives a shit sometimes
So we are intellectuals for discussing stuff on these here ‘interwebs’ and You and NYOIL are what? for discussing the same issues on ‘MySpace’ which is of course an ‘interweb’ thingie.
And what if the kids who need to grow up type the following into google…
‘bl.ack, wo.man, hi.tler, na.zi, po.rn, a.s.s, ra.pe’.?
Did that ever occur to you and NYOIL?
And you underestimate 13 and 14 year olds. Seriously. You underestimate them.
I live all the way across the pond and I’ve come into contact with teenagers who are reading ‘the miseducation of the Negro’ writing poetry about their life and how they view it. This may not have been you at 13 or 14.
But these 13 and 14 year olds do exist.
Your arrogance presumes that we all sit here having tete-a-tetes with each other and back slapping ourselves about what we know…
Maybe if you stepped if you removed your tunnell vision for one minute, you’d realise that we are NOT sitting around doing nothing.
until you get that through your mental, there is absolutely no point in going any futher. your presumptions are irritating and I have no idea where they come from.
It’s obvious that NYOIL’s presumptions come from a place steeped in inferiority complex, mysoginy, regret at a wasted youth, frustration and anger…
So gee thanks. Yes I am all over this shit like a rash. And rightly so.
Oh and by the way…
Has anyone of you caring, community saving, black folk saving.. managed to find anything out about the welfare and safety of that woman whose soul NYOIL has paraded for all the world to see at her most humiliating and debased point?.
ohhh ok I guess not, I mean y’all don’t really give a shit, do ya?.
I mean she’s already been used by the ‘other folk’ so she was fair game for you as well.. Talk about getting debased by those you expect and then being completely and thoroughly debased by those who proclaim loudly that they are trying to save your people.
What is NYOIL attempting to do, that BLack Thought has not been doing?
If you don’t get NOW why I love you sould I’m not sure there’s much more I can say.
He talks and gets a tongue bath from dj’s and its a big damn deal.
ANd how many people have come to this site, RUN by a young sista, GETTING HER PHD ( STILL AIN”T 30) , fighting to represent multifaceted faces iof black people and had the god damned gall to insinuate we should do something.
SO a song insulting women and folks he don’t like while he continues behaviors that perpetrate the things he so claims to be against Is doing something
but multi faceteed essays ,dialogue, community building and activism IS”T ????????
And why must we always bring in the rappers that folks don’t like BUt but but their WORSE. That’s nice , many have said that we’re talking about NTOIL now . But TRiz got to it and got to the point basically
I never expected a 13-14yr old to listen to lyrics from dip-set or lil kim either, but they do
These ” saviors” these concerned black folks have no fucking faith in BLACK KIDS. Kids don’t read fanon or woodson . KIDS AREN”T GIVEN FANON or woodson. It’s not in a blog. His shit was on Yputube YOU STILL HAVE TO SEARCH for that. But why appreciate and build his stuff when you can spend just as much time taking a potshot at sisters an avoiding the content of the critiques.
Plus if one more person throws at Fanon and Woodson and Malcolm X without acknowledging that MOST folks not just bad ass kids don’t do that kind of heavy lifting till college i will get violent. SOme do it before some are self taught but not coming into ocntact with college level work when You’re 15 isn’t the sign of a downfall of our people BUT
I know kids who read Fanon,Woodson,DUbois, AND Washington AND STILL SLING DRUGS. I know kids who are talented and wonderful and battling demons that NYOIL seems to think will dance away on wings of angels if they just listen to him.
Anfd fianlly fuck this bullshit of if you do something he’ll have accomplished his goal. People been doing, people been striving, and unless you’re willing to take time to talk to EVERY PERSON about their personal contribution and give me abreakdown of yours . I Would really really apprecite if everyone whould CAN the “GO do it / he accopmplished his goal talk” the work we do doesent sunddenly get menaing or loose meaning cause somebody spent an hour or so with a beatmachine and a powerbook.
Whatup all,
Few Points
@ Everyone
1. I’m not suggesting that anyone here doesn’t do anything already. That would be foolish. You assumed that I assumed this. If you can find the line in my text where I said “You’re not doing anything, so go do something”, please email it to me, triz215@gmail.com. What I said was do something about IT… The word “IT” references the video/song itself. Let folks know why this is the wrong way to go about things. That’s all. The “streets” don’t just refer to the literal meaning of the word. The streets are anywhere that people are in a position to listen. Take your comments, cut and paste them into the forums where the people who think that this video is great are talking about it. It would benefit them to see a different point of view. Here is the link.
http://www.bolt.com/NYOIL/video/Yall_should_all_get_lynch/2397339
Please continue to do the things you do, as they are much appreciated.
2. If I’m not mistaken, I don’t think NYOIL has a degree.
3. I’m not taking credit away from black women… I don’t know where that came from. I was raised by my mother, aunt, and grandmother because my father skated, so please don’t assume that I don’t have respect for the backbone of the black community. I know you’re angry about the representation of women in his video, but please don’t come to the conclusion that just because WE don’t see eye to eye, means that I’m in total agreement with other parties.
4. I don’t underestimate black children. I underestimate the number of opportunities they are given. I know that people like you are out doing great things, helping put kids on the road to enlightenment. Honestly speaking from my experiences, black kids are BEYOND capable when given the chance. They really don’t need a whole lot of help. I didn’t say that kids aren’t reading works by black intellectuals, or writing poetry, or heading organizations for black awareness, or participating in demonstrations. But the truth of the matter is most black kids will have many more opportunities to be exposed to the negative type of music we speak of, whether its back home in the US or here in the UK. They will most likely get this exposure before, during, and after they come in contact with anything positive. Unfortunately, intelligent voices don’t have the backing of a multi billion Dollar/Euro/Pound/Yen media company like these artists do, to provide a non-stop 24 hr bombardment of influence.
5. Many people don’t come in contact with these authors until college, but who said that college was the right time? I don’t understand why that is considered college level work? Undoubtedly, these concepts would be understood on a high school level when put into proper context. A lot of black kids don’t make it to college, and there fore are not exposed, not because they’re not intelligent enough or don’t work hard enough, the just that many get fucked up in the process and there isn’t always enough people in the community to help them all get back up and on the right path. I was one of the lucky ones. I wasn’t falling into the thug life or anything; I was just lost, like many if not most misguided youth. @ Blackamazon, ironically, it was an 17yr old kid selling drugs round my way who gave me “Before the Mayflower” when I was 15, which started the process of my change of view. Someone from the wrong side of the fence helped point me in the right direction. And what the hell are “bad ass kids”?
In closing (cause I gotta get back to my essay)
No one is perfect. Not me, anyone else in this forum, NYOIL, nobody. If anyone here is faultless and has never fucked up, changed their opinion about something that they used to be involved with themselves, said something that they didn’t mean, or gone about something in the wrong way with good or bad intentions behind it, please email your info to me – triz215@gmail.com… because then you would be Jesus, and I’ve been waiting to meet you. Otherwise, your human, and being human is not easy.
This isn’t about who contributes what or how they contribute it. It’s a communal effort and it’s about how we can fix it all to make it fit big picture. The person who drops some knowledge on a random kid in the street is just as important as the person who runs an after school program, who is just as important as the person who organizes a protest about NYPD shooting at an unarmed man 50 times, killing him hours before his wedding, who is just as important as all those who show up to protest.
@ soul: I’m new to the UK, so if you know of any good community programs I can get involved with, would you mind dropping me an email? I would appreciate it
Peace and Blessings
Triz
Triz…
Sup, see now You.. I have repsect for. Someone who can make a statement and defend each of his points when challenged.
Here’s the line in your text that stated I should ‘do something about it :
If you care about the black community (as I assume you do) and feel that it is detrimental, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
But then again, if you do something about it, then he’ll have achieved his goal…
Now even you have to admit, it was not clear that you were referencing the video, especially with the inclusion of the second paragraph.
On the issue of the ’streets’, Triz.. you keep doing this assumption thing, that i or we wouldn’t understand the ’streets’ as a metaphor for whereever you can be heard.. Listen I don’t need to pull out my ghetto card to tell to be able to let you know that I understand that the streets is my bedroom in the middle of the hood, or that ‘the streets’ is myspace, crackspace or whatever the latest ‘joint’ is.
And NO I will categorically refuse to run around chasing this NYOIL mess on bolt or myspace or any other community.. Wanna know why?
Because that ‘increases the eyeballs’ to his page, and makes it more popular, it pushes it up to the top of the pile and then you are going to get the unwanted traffic, you are going to get the ‘folks’ coming in and commenting on this mess… so if NYOIL wants publicity for his ‘joint’ he can run around psyching himself up or get his street team to keep hyping him on the millions of boards out there..
I point blank refuse to increase his visibility, because I do NOT agree with his message
Even if I decide to talk about this anywhere, his site would not get a link, the video will not get a link nothing. I’ve seen and heard enough.. if people want to find it they can do so of their own accord.
Remember that NYOIL came here to lamblast people who he knows nothing about, he didn’t care to ask them if they are doing something in the community, he insisted he was ‘opening the door’ for them to step through…Opening the door to what?.
He presumed he had a degree because he implied he couldn’t get a woman now that he has one. Also that he couldn’t get a woman because of the content of his character… little wonder.. with character like this what woman wants to stick around.
The reason why you have been lumped in with NYOIL is becuase you seem to have supported his stance without reading what he has said on this site…
NYOIL suggested that black women are the reason why Black men are failing, because we don’t demand they do better. He said if black women refuse to date a brother without a college degree then brothers would be pinning theit degrees to their lapels
I mean really…. REALLY? - do you support this.
I’m not angry about the representation of women in this video.. I am infuriated
Again, I will re-iterate…
NYOIL, raped this woman’s soul, he put her face out for all the world to see, he humiliated her just so he cold make a point, without a care aas to who she was, why she was there, where she is now and what happened to her HE DID NOT CARE. He saw a black woman being DEFILED and he decided to ante up and go further than anyone else to further her humiliation…
And he justified it.
Where do you stand?. What do you have to say about what he has done to this woman. and the other women he paraded in that video.
And what about the men, why the mysogyny.. who is a faggot? why are these men faggots? Are faggots destroying the black community?. Did the ‘faggots’ who fought for the movement build or destroy the black community?.
Nobody is perfect indeed. No-one on this site claimed to be perfect. But we are also not going to lay back and let NYOIL and his ‘homies’ attempt to nullify all the hard work we have done and continue to do on a daily basis..
No. Time have changed for the better, and thankfully many black women have stopped keeping quiet about the things we do out of some sense of duty to attribute hero status to some undeserving black men.
NYOIL wants to be a man. He needs to act like one, instead of pontificating and acting like a petulant child who has to be right, who is saving me from myself, who woke up and suddenly found out the sky is blue… puhlease..
I like many women no longer have any patience for that bullocks.
ANd FYI.. most of the knowledge I have gained about history has been from ‘undesirables’, ‘crooks’ whatever…they’ve taught me many times over that nothing is new in this world.. If I think I’m just doing it. I would be nmistaken.. everything has already been done. We just need to STFU sometimes instead of running our mouths and proclaiming our stupidity for all the world to see…. this is exactly what NYOIL is doing.
I have absolutely NO respect for him. Absolutely None. And I feel sorry for anybody who is close to him, cos this is a guy who will humiliate his mother to make a point. period!.
re: community programs.. the BBC website should list a few programs in your area. search around, contact your local schools and your local library..
I did and I was amazed that there was a long list of volunteers required for children taken class on the weekends at the local library.
I started collecting books at work, computer manuals anything I could lay my hands on, and everytime I got to the library to hand them in, the librarian couldn’t believe it.
She said ‘people don’t do this anymore’ and these kids are here every week, we struggle to even cope becuase there are soo many of them.
There are local youth centres all around, they are begging for people..
But as far as I am concerned, the best thing you could do for your community is to make yourself into something that you admire, be the light that leads..
Help yorself, learn through it and then help someone else.
I am still learning, I’m a few years older than Nubian and she fucking inspires me to do better and be more. and there are many others….
Nubian…
I must apologise.. for this.. I didn’t even realise how long the stuff I was typing was…
Peace all,
@ soul: you’re so dependable…
Really though, regarding my original statement, I apologize for any ambiguity. I hope that things have been clarified for all. Soul I appreciate your explanation as to why you won’t discuss it on other forums, and your reasons are well received and cool with me. @ The comment about the streets, I was just clarifying… If you knew what I meant, cool. That doesn’t mean that everyone else does, nor can I assume that everyone else did. You wouldn’t need a “ghetto” card to understand “the streets” because it’s not a ghetto term, and doesn’t required any type of “hood” logic to understand it. No Beef tho
As far as the suggestion that black women are the reason for black men’s failures. I have to disagree. I think what we have here is a case of different interpretation (which happens to be the fundamental issue with communicating through mass mediums). I understand where you’re getting your interpretation. On my end, I didn’t hear him placing blame on black women for men’s problems. What I heard in the song (not the forum) was a shot at black men for (a.) Not trying hard enough and being easily discouraged when it comes to doing something positive. And (b) consistently running away from their responsibilities. What I also heard, was a shot at black women for (a) being accepting of this type of behaviour, and (b) rewarding it by giving in to the same men who don’t accept their responsibilities. What was lacking was a reciprocal statement about the responsibility of black men not to accept this behaviour from black women either. Obviously, there are plenty of black men and women who don’t engage in this type of behaviour, and I don’t think that this message was aimed at said people.
NOW
I read his forum posts. Sadly, he brought what I consider to be a well intentioned, but poorly articulated argument. I believe that what he was trying to say (note: I believe) and the words he used to try to say it didn’t work together, and he opened himself up for more criticism. I interpreted his response as an effort to say that black women need to (a) Realize that they don’t need to cater to the bullshit they’re presented with, and (b) become conscious of the amount of power they hold in the black community when it comes to making a difference, especially among young black men.
And before anyone jumps on me with the “Who the hell does he think he is coming in here and making a statement like that like we need saving or some shit “rhetoric, please note that I understand that everyone in this forum knows the power of black women in the community. If he wanted to convey this message to you(people on this forum), he might have originally written it in this forum or another one like it instead of posting a music video on YouTube. Unfortunately, many of our young girls out here don’t understand their value. And I agree that his song did not convey this message in the best way.
(my whole message didnt post, so heres the rest. Thank god for cut and paste!!!)
ok, so it wont take the rest of my comment. I guess I said too much. I’ll save it in word, and try to paste it in the morning
Triz..
You said this: What I also heard, was a shot at black women for (a) being accepting of this type of behaviour, and (b) rewarding it by giving in to the same men who don’t accept their responsibilities.
We can\’t bloody win. You know, listen yeah..
If I dismiss a black man for not doing enough, then I\’m a bitter bitch and I\’m flashing my intelligence.
If I accept the flaw but love the man, then I\’m enabling.
Why must we black women always be the catalyst for grown ass men
I am a black woman. A woman who realises that the corporate world grudgingly accepts black men and even then only certain types. A woman who realises that College isn\’t necessary for everyone but who will not apologise for busting my ass and still paying back my student loans for it.
A woman who realises that just because you have done bad doesn\’t mean you don\’t want to do better.
A woman that realises that many \’brothas\’ who proclaim to be \’nice\’ guys are not, they are arrogant, self obsessed, egotistical, masochistic, ignorant arseholes.
Who really are all about dominating a woman and can\’t form decent relationships which is why they even lose to brothers who are visibly flawed.
These nice brotha\’s will be the first to tell you that you about the content of their \’character\’ without checking what they are saying and realising that the content of their character is FUGLY. That\’s why nobody wants their tired ass.
I recognise the strength and dignity in a brother who has done wrong and is trying.. you know trying to beat \’the streets\’. We both women and men sometimes come from places that are not perfect and we get sucked in.
What do you expect I as a black woman to do when the best brother in my environment is the one who has only been to jail once?
Do you think that my mentality is at a level where I\’m questioning if he has his GED when I\’m 16 years old and have been deemed a hot piece of ass by all te boys in my neighbourhood. Where in order to avoid being \’everyone\’s piece of ass, I\’ve had to be Tyrone\’s girl and Tyrone trying to own me has made me one of his baby mamma\’s?
How in holy heck do amd I supposed to check tyroneon his GED when Tyrone is saving me from being a cheap hooker on the streets?
How in the heck do I check Tyrone on his GED when the school we both attended didn;t even prepare us enough for writing an essay, let alone sitting for a SAT test.
Where are the educated brothers who are willing to Save me?
I admire brotha\’s who work with their hands, carpenters especially..
Oh and Triz…. a few points here..
1) NYOIL man said what he said and has defended everything he said. Stop trying to re-interpret what he said or re-translate it.
2) NYOIL was given every opportunity to explain his point of view, or further expound on it.. he did and chose the same avenue an the same rhetoric.
3) Stop with the \’jumping down your throat thing\’ Nobody who shares the view that NYOIL has used abhoring language has said something like that to any of his multiple defenders on this site.
We are simple addressing points tossed at us sometimes with vitriol, multiplied by insults and coarseness.
erm Nubian, sorry I think I left an unclosed bold tag somewhere in there
here’s the rest of my post, I had more points, some stuff above had been addressed here, but i couldnt post. I left off w/he last sentence from above.
Unfortunately, many of our young girls out here don’t understand their value. And I agree that his song did not convey this message in the best way.
(Im having problems, so here it is piece by piece)
Also, the ownership of this influence that I’m referencing to black women DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BLACK WOMEN TO CHANGE BLACK MEN.
“He said if black women refuse to date a brother without a college degree then brothers would be pinning theit degrees to their lapels
I mean really…. REALLY? - do you support this.”
I don’t think that women should refuse to date a brother based solely on his level of education, but I do agree that the acceptance of these below average men should stop. If on a communal scale women made it known that they will not accept the ridiculous, immature bullshit that a lot of black men engage in, I don’t think it’s too far fetched to say that it may sway the actions and opinions of a few. And the reverse also goes for black men who run to the nearest chick with her ass hanging out. It isn’t cute, it’s disgusting, and it’s sad that the expectations on both sides are so low.
About the woman he used in the video, I agree, Unnecessary. He said he got it off the net somewhere, so I’m assuming that it’s pornography of some sorts, as a flat out rape caught on camera would be subject to legal action. Whether or not she had a choice in the matter, it didn’t need to be shown to convey the message.
What other women in the video? Lil Kim? Foxy Brown? They been parading their ass around since their first singles dropped. Nothing new. Karrine Steffans, the woman who takes pride in the name Super-Head, and put out a novel about how she fucked and sucked her way to the top? The grown ass woman bending over making her ass clap for the camera that I’m sure is fully aware that it was going to be uploaded on the internet? Excuse me while I borrow a word from your vocab, but puhlease. Forgive me, but I don’t feel sorry for these women, The same way I dot feel sorry for a man who consistently lands himself in prison over and over. They were way ahead of NYOIL as far as having they’re asses paraded around, and honestly the pics from the first three could’ve been a hell of a lot more tasteless… an internet search will warrant that. I’m scared for the little girls who see this shyt on a regular basis and equate it with success, and the lil boys who think that these are the values to look for in a woman. Oh, and I failed to mention Condeleeza Rice, who was also in the video… but I Knoooooooow you weren’t talking about her…
As far as his word usage, again a case of poor articulation, this could’ve been corrected with a bit more thought. The word faggot wasn’t necessary to get his point across and I don’t condone it. However, I wont act like I’ve never been guilty myself of using the word, or any of the other words that were used in the song that weren’t needed. I don’t need to point them all out.
I gotta go to bed, so I’m gonna close out. I’m not here to defend the man or his work. I’m just here to offer another point of view, take it or leave it. @ Soul, the discourse is much appreciated, and You’re 100% right that none of this shyt is new. Good look on the program info. I’m out, drop me an email (triz215@gmail.com) if you have serious beef as I will be living in the library for the next 2 weeks.
Much Love
Triz
“No ideas original, theres nothing new under the sun. It’s never what you do, but how its done…”
One last thing,
I’m not re-interpreting what he said. I was simply giving my interpretation and my critique on how he said it. Mine alone. And everyone who hears the song will take their own interpretation as well, just like everyone who reads this forum takes their own interpretation from what you write. Words are arbitrary and subject to change as per the individual.
What about these women?
so Lil Kim makes her ass clap? so what? She deserves all she gets for that? And what exactly is he implying that she deserves?.
Oh and you know what So what about Karin Superhead? She got caught up… what about the married rappers who fucked her?. What about them? where is their responsibility to keep their dicks in their pants and not go there..
you know karin couldn’t be a ’superhead’ if they didn’t put their dicks in her mouth and she didn’t force them
Why are people pissed at her? and not the rappers who were in and out of her and when they were done with her they wanted her to rot and waste away?
Why are people pissed off that she told on ‘their boys’.
What is the difference between Karrine and these other fools who talk about how many bitches they run through?.
so Karrine wants to talk about how many idiotic ‘homies’ she has run through.. so what?
Why does she deserve to get lynched for that.
And for the record I don’t care if he got that off the net somewhere, he made it more widespread.. he didn’t care about the woman in the video he just used her.
More people will see his video as opposed to the obscure place he got it from..
If he was a true brotha who was truly outraged he would seek out the people who made that video. he would be urging a campaign right now to shut those people up, he would be seeking out that sistah to find where the heck she is and what the heck is happening to her.
what he is doing is the rquivalent of raping and already raped victim in the guise of saving her…
He and ANYBODY who defends the use of that footage is dispicable and disgustingly warped.
oh and I really am sick of hearing this:
If on a communal scale women made it known that they will not accept the ridiculous, immature bullshit that a lot of black men engage in….
You know what when women let it be known.. you know what black men tell us…
They say:
That’s why we go with white women, they don’t stress us, they don’t care what we do, they just love us for us, they don’t sweat a brotha to be doing this or that.. they let me breath… blah blah blah…
Don’t act like you don’t know.. and don’t like it’s not common. Till today. black men say that shit. or they say I don’t want a black woman who is gonna be all acting like she’s too much because she got a college degree…
Even now that’s what’s been going on in these here forums, men coming in and talking about… ohhh y’all academics are this and that..
It’s tiring, seriously..
i have never patted a brotha on the back for being a low achiever, but I have patted a brotha on the back for being a decent human being, and I have patted a brotha on the back who was content with what he had, he didn’t want to have a miullion bucks, he didn’t want to drive the latest truck.. all he wanted was to be comfortable to be able to go out once in awhile, to feed himself and chill. I respected the hell out of that and till today he is one of the most peaceful and content people I’ve ever known.
i have been introduced to a brotha who had been in jail and had turned his life around, because he wanted to and he thanked God for his wife who he met when he got out of jail who took a chance with him when NOBODY not even his homies wanted to know.
He hires more than 50 people now and runs his own IT company.. his homies with their ‘college’ degrees are working for the man and running around talking about ‘black women ain’t shit’.
I don’t think any of those female rappers deserve to get lynched or raped or whatever for their sexuality or for their lyrical content. Hell no!
Again you say you are not re-interpreting his words…
but why are you deciding that it is a case of poor articulation and not his genuine intentions?. How do you know this.
NYOIL DEFENDED his words in this FORUM. Do you hear me. He defended his words. So please, quit trying to tell me what you think he meant.. He already made it perfectly clear what he meant.
And No. I do not have beef with you or anybody.
I am expressing myself on this issue same as everyone else, why would i have beef..
this is the internet, anyone can say anything they want to.
The fact that i might passionately represent my points means that I believe in what I am saying. It doesn’t mean that I have any sort of beef with anybody.
hope the links prove useful.
Twiz i respect you coming abck and talking but the comment soul qoted is what set me off because it’s happened time and time and again.
WHAT RE YOU DOING.
Why is it that being part of this community constantly requires credentials that only some are required to show. And the fact that his video seems to never get answered with well homey what else are you doing but his critiquers are asked is getting old and i do not mena to lump you in but i really wnate d to get that out.
And my point about teh thinkers is taht , I find it really disheartening how older folsk talk about teh lost ways of kids and seem to ” forget” that the knowledge they bemoan thes kids for not having isn’t exactly all out there for them. And damning them and shaming doesn’t hel p at all and if the problem is the system not giving it to them or lack of structures give ing it to them then the problem is t THOSE things not the kids.
And no one is saying they never fucked up but we are syaing that pointing out fuck ups and then blaming itt on sistas while claiming love for us not gonna cut it no more.
ANd its tiring that when we say UM NO its suddenly a tratorship or we don’t knwo about street life.
If we wann flash hood pases trust me me mine is a okay but thats not the point , thepoint is that I am watching someone make lots of hay about stuff while stepping on those he claims to help
BAd ass kids- term of endearment for kids. I dont believe in bad kids but they can be trying so we used to say bad ass ( hard head makes a soft behind)
I’m totally not seeing how crimes against fashion or taking advantage of the system that rewards a woman more for being a sex object than what’s in her head stacks up to folks who preach materialism to the youth and even worse, run around with guns?
@SOUL- There is a group of women who proclaim to date nothing but thugs. It is those women who NYOIL is talking about when he made the comment about no love with a degree.
As far as the woman in the x rated video, I have empathy for her but at the same time I am very angry that she would put herself out there in that way. There are many women who work in the adult industry, and they would not allow themselves to be degraded in the same manner that this woman allowed herself to be. Lets face it, some people are just sick.Bad History, bad childhood, abuse or whatever.
“He said if black women refuse to date a brother without a college degree then brothers would be pinning theit degrees to their lapels
I mean really…. REALLY? - do you support this.”
-Yes to some extent
@ Soul- You made a very good point about Karine. I had that debate with so many people. It burned me up how so many radio hosts wanted to “burn” Karine up, but had nothing to say about the rappers who passed her around. Many of these men were married and could of “caught” any type of STD from this young woman and passed it on to their wives.
While I beleive that woman should take the intinative to protect themselves against disease and abuse from men, I also beleive that men should not attempt to take advantage of a woman because she has a kind heart or is “soft”. I think that many women allow themselves to be run over when they make statements “a man is going to be a man”. What kind of mess is that. A man will do what you let him do. After a man disrespects you the first time, get rid of him.
p.s.- Soul I like your style. YOu stand up for what yo believe and refuse to back down or change your opinion for anybody.
yo believe and refuse to back down or change your opinion for anybody.
Actually that is like um… George Bush… Changing an opinion in the face of new or correct information is a sign of maturity, simply because an opinion is just that an opinion not fact. As Brother Marley put it, one should know and not believe.
I can infer two things from this statement, if it does in fact have relevance to this comment thread and it isn’t just a non sequitur:
1) You’re implying new AND correct (I somehow doubt you believe all new information is correct information) has been introduced in this comment thread, and
2) You’re implying that soul’s adherence to her standpoint about this NYOIL video lacks maturity because she has taken a stance and stuck with it.
I see this reflected in NYOIL’s video as well, so Triz, do not take this statement personally. If you want people to change their behaviors, approach them as free-thinking individuals and not as people deserving of your pity or your contempt. You can care about a person without feeling sorry for them or imposing change on their lives because you don’t feel it’s right.
Blackamazon hit the nail on the head. Same argument with pointing out fuck ups and claiming they should be lynched out of some so-called brotherhood and concern from them. Don’t work that way.
No actually you thought waaay to hard on that one. I meant exactly what I said. No extra context needed.
As for the “Should be lynched” thing. I happen to think that Jonas Savimbi ought ot have been lynched. I would also have advocated a bullet to the head for Mobutu. I think the idiot Hutu who was on the radio talking about killing the roaches ought to be strung up as well. I can think of many ways that the “rebels” in Sierra Leone ought to have been put to death, but all that is my opinion. Desmond Tutu may disagree with me on that. That’s his opinion.
I thought so, but I just thought I’d ask. That’s one of the things I don’t like about the ‘net: its ambivalence with the written word. Sorry about that.
As to your other point…people have done some ridiculous shit and they still do it. But I still can’t bring myself to assign lynching to anyone as a punishment they deserve.
I guess I don’t see where people have decided to blur that line for reaching a certain goal or promoting a certain viewpoint. And if we’re at a point where we do have to blur that line, I want no part of it. Call it my selfish, high-blown ideas of integrity: hell, I probably haven’t reached my own conceptions of integrity. But that just crosses a boundary in my opinion. No disrespect.
@Stacy
Yes there are a group of women who insist on dating thugs, just like there are a group of men who insist on dating ‘bad beyatches’.
Like I said.. if you live in the hood, a nice guy will not protect you from ‘Tyrone’ and his friends up the block who will not hesitate to violate you. Tyrone will protect you. (that’s one scenario).
Secondly, please let’s examine this definition of nice, because too many guys think nice means, I have a college degree and I earn a wage. That means nice. erm wrong.
Too many self defined ‘nice’ guys are arrogant, ignorant, self absorbed immature runts. Ask them why the y think they are nice?. And hear the tripe they come out with.
Let’s also remember that these rapper brotha’s are complicit in making Karrine who she is today. She started as a dancer. It could have ended there, but no.. these men who made a commitment to their wives, had absolutely no problem routinely shagging this woman, and passing her around their friends. They sing about that don’t they?. They wax lyrical about it, so why are they hurt now that she is also talking and has written a book about it?
Stacy - I have no problems accepting that I am wrong. But I refuse to just pander to anyone advocates the lynhing of black people. be you white, black or brown.
And then has the audacity to suggest that I’m sitting on my todd not doing anything.
sondjata -
Actually that is like um… George Bush… Changing an opinion in the face of new or correct information is a sign of maturity, simply because an opinion is just that an opinion not fact.
Pray, show me where in this thread I have held on to an opinion in the face of ‘factual or correct information’.
You just can’t stop can you, I disagreed vehemently with you on one topic and you’ve been trying ever since, even when we are on the same side of the arguement to take silly little swipes at me, comparing me to George Bush..
lol…. you are funny. No really .. you are funny.
Grow up.
And damning them and shaming doesn’t hel p at all and if the problem is the system not giving it to them or lack of structures give ing it to them then the problem is t THOSE things not the kids.
well the reason so many sex workers are murdered and raped and abused is because society tells the assholes who use them that these women are less than nothing, just trash that can be used however they like and then thrown away.
The stigma and shaming is part of the problem in the first place.
Soul:
You are way too self centered. I’m going to guess that I am far older than yourself and I will also say you probably don’t speak to your elders in such a manner face to face.
That said, the comment was that someone admired your willingness to stick to your guns. My position was that an attitude that one should always ’stick to ones guns”, regardless of who it is and what the topic is, is not a good qualitity. For example I gave George Bush, who ’sticks to his guns” and until the election couldn’t admit any mistake. See it wasn’t even about you at all. But you are so tied up in you and what YOU think and the rightness of YOUR thought that you think everyone must be talking about YOU, ennit?
And no, you didn’t disagree with me vehemently on any topic. You made a point about NY OIL not responding to YOU on this forum and proceeded to attack his character and I simply pointed out that he had addressed the issues in an interview posted online (which YOU prematurely judged as inaccessible because YOU weren’t in the US when the material was not innaccesible to YOU. YOU simply didn’t look for it.) But YOU wanted a conflict so YOU made it about YOU and how YOU wanted him to deal with YOU on YOUR terms.
But check it, I ain’t mad at YOU at all. Been seen types like YOU before and will see types like YOU again so I’ll finish up and wait for YOU to take another swipe at me rather than admit that you made a mistake and didn’t quite get it that my post regarding sticking to one’s guns” was not about YOU and apologise for the unnecessary attitude. But I won’t hold my breath for it though cause nothing I’ve read so far shows me that you are at a point where you can admit to being wrong, apologise and then stop speaking on the subject.
“i’m just curious though, why do some folks support nyoil’s request for lynching black folks, but were all up in arms when kramer said the same mess?”
good question Nubian.

Sondjata…
Ummm…. again, I addressed him here, I have no interest in engaging him anywhere else.
He came here, made a fuss about us not getting him, from the type of bollocks he typed out.. I’m not the least bit interested in ‘getting him’.
He got the attention he was looking for.. he is welcome to it.
And yep, I missed the link you posted, (see I can admit to missing something). I see it now, and I’m still not interested.………… …..
Thank you.
I guess YOU missed that.
You can guess whatever you want about my age or whatever, but YOU don’t know do you?. but feel free to ‘guess’ ‘assume’ ‘presume’ or whatever. You seem to be quite good at that.
Someone says something about me, you take that thing and make an example out of it and you weren’t referring to me..
lol haaa haaa haaa…
Bearing in mind even even Sylvia’s revenge thought you were referring to me…
see she said :
I can infer two things from this statement, if it does in fact have relevance to this comment thread and it isn’t just a non sequitur:

I guess she really is just erm wellshe can’t be self centred, cos she’s not SOul, and even she thought you were talking about me, but ahhh why let that even bother you
after all it is MY problem… oh yeah.. erm right!
oh and NYOIL displayed his character, he attacked the women in this forum.. but I notice you remained tight lipped about that. didn’t ya?.
oh and apologise to you? haa haa…
haa haaa lol
stop breaking the forum lol… haa haa…
I’m focused on the issue at hand, your the one that pulled George Bush thingie from nowhere.
Out of everything that stacy said.. all you could come up with was that ‘George Bush analogy’????.
erm what am I supposed to be apologising for and to whom? NYOIL? YOU? because he is advocating killing black people?, because he appropriated a disgraceful banned image of a woman who had already been defiled?, because I refuse to increase the traffic to his radio spots, because I missed the link and admitted that I missed the link even though I had no interest in clicking on the link?.
I owe you no apology. Nothing. So on that you are right.
And you ‘think’ you are an elder?. really? wow!
really you give me joke.
As expected. YOU. YOU. YOU.
@ sondjata. Yes. I’m fabulous baby. I know that.
Again that’s all you got from that
Now that I’ve confirmed your expectations.. do you wanna move on?.
All hail soul!

i don’t understand it either. How can we support any message that calls for the killing of our own people. But to add insult to injury a message that is calling for the killing of our own people in a way that our oppressors used to kill them.
the ‘language of the streets’ justification is the same justification that these same rappers are using to tell their tales.
I cannot advocate the killing of a black man.
@ Sondjata- I don’t think there has been any factual information added to this debate since we started. I was simply admiring the fact that Soul stuck to her opinion and did not water it down because there are people here who diagree with her view.
@Soul- I totally agree with you on Karine. According to the new book by the mother of Nas’s child Jay and Naz pass around women regaulry. I somewhere a long time ago that the men in the NBA are guilty of this also. I guess this is some male stuff because I have never heard a large group of females talk about passing around a male in the same way. Maybe this is a sick way that many males bond.

@Soul- I totally agree with you on Karine. According to the new book by the mother of Nas’s child, Jay Z and Nas share/pass around women regaulry. I read somewhere (dirct quote of NBA player) a number of years ago, that the men in the NBA are guilty of this also. I guess this is “some male stuff” because I have never heard of a large group of females talk about passing around a male in the same way. Maybe this is the sick way that some males bond.
@ wildchild- The difference is Krammer meant that from the bottom of his heart. NYOIL is using lynching as a way to grab young folks attention.
stacy: I agree with you on the point of lack of factual information. Again. my commentary about “sticking to one’s guns” still stands and is not directed at any particular person. Fact is that eventually folks who insist on “sticking to their guns” make asses of themselves. Therefore it is, IMHO better to admire one who is willing to be wrong, admit when they are wrong, and have the character to discuss issues as if they may be wrong.
For example, Malcolm X stuck to his guns while in the NOI. Swore up and down he was right too. Then, to his credit, modified his view and became more cooperative with people he had previously dismissed out of hand and had spoken particularly ill of during his NOI days. Some considered it “watering down” and others saw that as growth.
We should all strive to have such character and that commentary applies to all.
@ sondjata-Good point. I like the Malcolm X reference.
@stacy - are you kidding? how can that be a good reason to advocate something so heinous? i don’t know…maybe it’s because i grew up in the south and attended schools with the blood of my ancestors on the ground beneath me(hell you don’t have to be from the south to overstand that type of ish so i move to strike that reason from the record lol)….but you just don’t SAY shit like that. I’m all for getting the message out…but think of the children that will go around repeating this when they’re joking with their friends. “Aww your butt should get lynched.” If they don’t overstand the context of that word, then this too will lie akin with using the word “nigger” freely amongst ourselves and that is just not something i can nod my head and defend and say “you know, you got the message out.” I see the positives but the negatives are outweighing it far too much. Like i told him, re-write your script and then i won’t mind paying $8 to see the movie.
@ ms. wyldchild- I don’t think NYOIL actually meant that he wanted black folks lynched. I think he used the lynching reference as a way to get attention for his message.
I’ve to say I agree with those that see the light-meaning the positives out of the message that NYOIL tried to convey in his video more than the negatives. As much as I’d like to say I agree & support my sisters here like I do my elders & ancestors, like Harriet Tubmman,Assatta Shakur etc. but I’ve to also expressed reading some of the threads opposition ,it sounds like a lot of the opinions are coming from self hatred & or confusion-misunderstanding of knoledge of self, our people’s plight.I do believe in MAAT & PC,I think there’s a time in place for everything, without writng a book I’d leave on the note that with all due respect-Brothas & Sistahs we’ve to stop with this childish bickering & allow ourselves to be didvided & conquered, peace & love ,HotepAl
I just want to take a moment and thank Sondjata Triz HotepAl
and some of the others whos name escapes me for seeing past the language and realizing the method I am using to do what i am doing.
I keep hearing people like Soul say.. “I AM DOING SOMETHING I AM HELPING..”
and then challenging me by saying what have I done? What have I contributed.
Your arrogance is appauling .. your ignorance is overwhelming and despite how well you try to frame your position the fact that is comes from a bruised and bitter, selfish, selfcentered heart is evident.
You have nothing to offer… but the same anger you accuse me of. You’ve rushed in cavilier with no real basis for an argument and done NOTHING but built an argument based on your assumptions and interpetations of my song.
You are STILL insisting that I said something about Raping a woman.. LOL.. You’re still saying that I said that a woman deserves to be rapped.. And your still saying i called men Faggots.. when i never said ANY of these things.
You’re so self centered.. that you’ve taken to quoting YOURSELF as if that quote would support your hollow argument.
Look .. I’m sorry if I can’t spend the time it would take to articulate my argument here in a fashion that would suit the members of this community.. I am truly TOO busy to do that. By the time I even make it over here and then read the crap that you and your cronies write I am generally menatally and emotionally spent..
Today i happend to make this the first stop on my things to do list so i have a little more energy..
But not for nothing SOUL.. and whomever else cosigns this particular shit..
Did i read you right or did u just disrespect my mother on this message board? Matter fact FUCK THAT.. did u even MENTION my mother on this message board?
yo.. FUCK U for that Soul.. from the bottom of my heart.. FUCK U..
I don’t know you.. u don’t know me.. I aint say a thing against anyone in here on a personal note.. everything on here has been personal attacks against me which is pure ignorance cause none of you KNOW me.. none of you have ever spoke to me.. and it is common knowledge that if u really got something to say I’ll call your ass up and we can address it verbally.. ask DEEN.. he can tell u.
but u in such a frenzy that u spoke on my mother.. u low life.. u seriously aint about shit.. and the fact that was allowed a pass and cosigned by the people on this board.. are u fucking serious..
this is Blakademic .. right.. and this is the best yall could come up with???.. My mother??
focusing on a point that wasn’t made well .. but made none the less about women allowing me to be with them for the wrong reasons??
that’s it..
the word lynch..
while they support selling drugs in the community, gang violence.. they sing about this shit everyday.. and this is the best yall have to offer??
61 post about NYOIL??
word??
and again.. i asked for help and insight.. none
I asked for guidance.. None
what do i get
a bunch of talk.. and mother insults
blackademic indeed.. lol
You know.. the arguments here are just weak enough that I am inclined to belive that they aren’t even coming from black women at all.. but in fact they may come from those whos intrest would be served by making me pissed and turning me against black women becuase the opinions of two or three fools.
Sorry Rapcointelpro.. won’t work on this brother..
erm NYOIL, no thanks.
See I know your style.. quote one place where I insulted your mother? just one.
you are all mouth no brain. You are like an empty vessel.. you make the loudest noise but you have no substance to fill it up.
And now you are soo pathetic that you have to manufacture insults just to prove a point?
Oya, point out the ‘mother insults’
where?.
gosh what an attention seeking cry baby. No body here insulted your mother except you. Your constant stamping of your foot, and over the top hysteronics with absolutely no sense of respect, accountability and irresponsibility AND you dragging her into this to use as some sort of prop to prove your point is an insult to her.
You did that NYOIL and I’m not surprised.. you already said you appropriated the image of that woman being sodomized in that idiotic mess you put together.. why am I not surprised that you would (as you’ve just proven) appropriate your mother to prove a point and for some sympathy.
you nyoil are a disgrace, a liar, a baby and a fraud.
Kindly prove what you have accused me of, or go fuck your self.
oh and NYOIL..
whilst you are at it… please point to the place where I mentioned the word faggot?
I know you are a coward, why?. because you make things up and then sling insults and accusations with no back up.
You were the person who came in here telling everybody that we are nothing, just a bunch of academics, just this, just that.
It was you who said.. you are ‘opening the door for us’ (yeah right) to step through
it was you who claimed that we can’t reach anybody.
it was you who insisted that we are not doing anything becuase we all didn’t come down to support ‘YOUR’ message at your youth centre. like yeah I’m really going to jump on a plane and take a 7 hour flight across the Atlantic to prove to you that I’m helping people in my back yard.
You are irresponsible. You keep proving that time and time again.
You are soo irresponsible that you are misapporpriate things just to prove a point.
Where did I mention your mother?
point it out or be a man and admit that you got it wrong.
You have no heart, you have no soul.. you are just white noise. You victimise yourself just so you can prove a point.
Yes I focused on a point, a point about personal responsibility. YOU slept with those women becuase they like those things about you, you could have said NO you chose not to.
You brought up the word lynch. You care soo much about black men that you propose lynching them instead of talking about lynching the evil, which is ill education and a lack of hope.
You bust in accuse everyone of not doing anything, negating everybodies efforts because we didn’t drop everything we are doing to focus on your community. Because you think our communities don’t need help?
And now you just reel off accusations with no basis.. even though you can scroll up and read everything I’ve said in black and white..
you make up bullshit accusations about your OWN mother
You are a disgrace. An absolute disgrace. a pathetic baby who has to make up crap in order to make a point.
Ahem:
I have absolutely NO respect for him. Absolutely None. And I feel sorry for anybody who is close to him, cos this is a guy who will humiliate his mother to make a point. period!.
Yah.. Ahem
Oh and that would be Soul’s post # 24 4:12 pm
sondjata…
Seriously, how is that insulting his mother?
on a serious note, I’m just asking.. no offense intended here or anything.
just tell me.
I think YOU should be directing commentary to the person who took offense and not to the observers.
sondjata…
I asked because he said I disrespected his mother..
I did not..
and you pulled a quote.
I did direct a comment to NYOIL above.
I addressed YOU because you pulled up something I said.. with no context.
You stopped being an observer when you did that. You got involved. So I addressed YOU.
And I’m still addressing you. You may chose not to answer and that’s all good as well.
I just don’t see why you pulled a quote, as if to prove that I did something which I didn’t.
If you don’t want to address the issue, then why refer to it?
“out of context”
The excuse of those caught out there.
perhaps you ought to take your own advice:
We just need to STFU sometimes instead of running our mouths and proclaiming our stupidity for all the world to see….
Context:
this is exactly what NYOIL is doing.
I have absolutely NO respect for him.
In English grammar, the ‘him” in this sentance refers to the previous mentioned proper noun which would be NYOIL.
And I feel sorry for anybody who is close to him, cos this is a guy who will humiliate his mother to make a point. period!.
Anybody, like anyone other than “him”. “Him” being NYOIL.
“This guy” as as “him” as in NYOIL.
“His mother” as in ‘this guy” as in “him” and “him” as in NYOIL.
so YOU brought up NYOIL’s mother saying that NYOIL would “humiliate” his mother to make a point. NYOIL has taken offense to such a statement and has called you on it.
Period.
aarrrgghhh ~Sondjata.
i said.. ‘with no context’ (not out of contesxt), as in: YOU pulled the quote and didn’t say anything else, of course I’d address you if you do that) come on… All I asked you for was clarity simple and I did so respectfully.
Yes. i said this is a guy who will humiliate his mother to make a point. I did not call his mother names, I did not label her anything. I said he would use her to make a point. And IMO he is doing exactly that right now.
I did not call her out of her name. At all. At no point.
He said I disrespected his mother. I did no such thing.
I said he would do that to make a point. that’s all.
I have and will admit when I make a mistake, everytime.. I’m flawed no doubt. But I do NOT go around disrespecting people’s mothers. I made the statement after I read where NYOIL had said that he appropriated the image of that black woman, even though that movie was made in Italy and is banned in the US.
No matter what I say, it seems you will have a problem with it. So cool, run with that. I’m done
Whatever you decide is right, is right, whatever you say I’ve done wrong, fine. I’m done with this.
If I have offended you on this forum, then my apologies. Blackademic is leaving this board. I see no reason to continue this conflict here or anywhere else for that matter.
NYOIL gets nothing from me, I do not like his message, I do not like his methods, I will NEVER promote or even as a metaphor suggest lynching black men or women. No way. I have too much love for them for that.
Sondjata.. I wish you well, in whatever you do and wherever you go.
Thanks for the lesson.
Good luck.
NYOIL

NExt time you want to get the fuck out of here . STAY TEH FUCK GONE!
nyoil is clearly a product of the racist, imperialistic bush machine designed to disgrace, divide and destroy Africa people. but it will not work. sorry nyoil, your energy is too weak to cause any further harm to our people.
next?
I’m gonna say something and I hope you take the time to actually think about it before you get upset and decide that I’ve lost it and are no longer willing to listen to reason. Over the course of history men have been the rulers of the world. THAT is a historical fact. Wars have been started over women, stories written of them, but throughout time MEN have been the leaders of destiny. Now fast-forward to present-day. A large percentage of black family structures begin with the mother as the head of the household. For whatever reason, be it because of divirce, abandonment, or death the woman is left to play the role of Father and Mother. That was never intended to be the way it worked. It was intended for a man to be the head of the household. That view has sadly become nearly extinct. Now when a person intends to fix a leak you must first locate the problem spot, the “crack” if you will. Then you repair the damage it caused. If we don’t first “fix” the way our men look our women, our lives, our way of life… then how can we ever hope to “fix” any of the rest of it. The song “Y’all should all get lynched” has successfully accomplished it’s mission. Just look at how many people are talking about it. Had he not made such an “out-of-the-box’ remark many people may never have taken the time to listen. What should he have named it; “Y’all should all get lynched-Metaphorically speaking”? One of the only venues that reaches into nearly all households in Hip-Hop, so it was only natural that he take his message there, but the only drawback is that in order for his message to get any attention he had to give it that “slap in the face” quality to get people’s attention. I urge you to stop bitchin for a moment; take the time to go to the man’s page and read what he say’s there; read some of the comments that others have made. It’s a bad thing to discount the message of an individual that is looking for positive social change. It takes for a person to become totally fed up with the status-quo and decide that if no one else did he/she will stand up and be heard. Martin Luther King, Jr did and his decision sparked a movement that paved the way for the freedoms we now enjoy. Think back to the first time a white person called you a “Nigger”; I’m not talking about in reference to you or other black folks; I’m talking about a whiteperson that looked you in the face and called you a “Nigger.” For those of you that have never experience that kind of open hatred and dismissal I tell you in the nicest possible way to “SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!” You don’t know what it means to know that some people still see you as a second-class citizen. Believe me, it hurts. I applaude the man for having the gall to bring this kind of thing to the fore-front, and I hope he knows that he is not alone in his ideology and until there are some serious social reforms to the black community there will always be men and women that are willing to say what the rest of you wet-noodle-spined social conformists are unable or unwilling to say.
Lawrence McCarter said:
This needs to be said, because being quiet breeds acquisence to your disturbing point of view.
Nothing you’ve said here is new, we’ve heard all that tough-love talking trash from the Cosbys, McWhorthers and now NYOIL… Do you really think that you need the shock-factor to make a point… then perhaps you’ve never heard of Mystique, Sistah Souljah and Dead Prez revolutionary folks who did not cuddle their folks but did not denigrate them either…
and
Ohhhhh, this is precious. Because black people object to other black people telling them they need to be lynched, because black women object to the language directed at them to “clean up their act” in so many words, they must not be black because they refuse to appreciate the effort to get them on the right track.
If that’s the way we’re showing love and respect, maybe these people should start hating and disrespecting so I can tell the damned difference.
I’m going to take a deep breath and refrain from a long commentary about NY OIL as it will only inflame the sore spots already on fire. I’ll spend my time on the people I can impact, which are the people reading this blog. I will keep my point short as I’ve been known to be long winded at times.
As far as I can tell, there are about three or four people arguing out of about seventy posts. There is some extreme bitterness and anger over a “SONG”. One that is far less offensive and damaging to our community than, “Wait til you see my dick” or “Work that clit cum girl” or better yet, “Ms. New Booty” or how about “Tip Drill” which was all over the radio and television. I can honestly say that we spend way too much time criticizing each other or criticizing and harping on an action that was actually intended to take shots at the ridiculous acts that our steppin fetchit musicians portray these days all for the love of money. “Sellouts”
We have to realize that everything is not directed at us as individuals but it is these representations in music that are destroying our image not just at home but Worldwide. I live in Korea now and I see clearly how it has impacted the idea of who we are here. We cannot go on pretending that the things that happen in our communities and the ways that both men and women act in our community does not exist getting mad when someone calls for it to be eliminated using a radical term. It is through radical movements that things change, that things get pushed along. And when I say radical I don’t mean violent, I mean radical thought which spawns evolution of ideas and people. Just the fact that there is a discussion on this topic means people are thinking and therefore learning.
We all play our part in helping our community, however we choose to do so and one manys work is no greater than another whether you help one or a million. The key is that we help. And when you do help, there is no need to spew off the things you do like a resume to prove you’re legit.
I think we need to spend less time arguing over stuff like this and more time handling the things we have control over in life. Dammit, I said more than I set out to say. Sorry folks.
I have read all of these comments and I can not believe what I’ve read. Here’s how I feel. This is my opinion and I’m sticking to it regardless of all of the online flap I will get later.
Judging by the forum I can tell that a lot of you need to WAKE UP! Allow me to explain:
1. First all the title “Ya’ll Should All Get Lynched” implies to those who have DISGRACED their brothers and sisters. Have any of you even watched the video? Who was mostly on it while he was rapping? Gangsta rappers, gansta-wanna-be rappers, women showing off their booties, a porn star, gang bangers, and wanna-be thugs or gangstas. Like what one forum member asked, would the song get any attention if it had a less strong, eye-catching title? NYOIL used the title not to get your attention (which worked apparently) but to express the anger many of us feel. These gangstas, thugs, drug dealers, and hoes are destroying their black communities. To say ‘lynch’ is metaphorically speaking! He is NOT saying he wants to lynch black people; he’s saying those that destroy the black communities deserve to get lynched!
2. One person said that she is doing something to help the black community, BUT NEVER mentioned what exactly you are doing to support your claim. What are you doing exactly? I’ll tell you what I’m doing. I work at a youth program helping kids to play and grow into responsible adults. It may be little to you, but it’s a BIG deal to me. By the way, I’m not bragging; I’m just saying.
3.a. I don’t think a lot of you have even seen the video, or any other of NYOIL’s videos for that matter. Since a lot of you women are quick to complain about how he is mysognistic, ya’ll apparently have not seen a video he made called “You’re a Queen!?!” If you took the time to view it, it’s a message praising and honoring black women and women in general. NYOIL is doing somthing a lot of these mainstream rappers are NOT doing and that is giving thanks to black women and not presenting them as negative stereotypes. Also, if you were to see the video, if shows clips from a short film by Kiri Davis called “A Girl Like Me.”
3.b. NYOIL’s song that you seem to be focused on talks about women who go after thugs instead of the college types. What he said is true about some women, but if you are not a part of that category, then why are you angry about it? Usually, when someone says something bad about members in a particular group, some people react in a negative manner because they think that person is referring to them. Is that the case with some of you? If not, disregard this statement. If so, you have no reason to get mad if it’s the truth.
4. The one who says that she’s STRAIGHT FUCKIN HOOD. I assume you’re a woman since your name is blackamazon. May I ask you something? What’s so good about the hood that you are proud to say that you’re hood? YOU described how terrible it is yourself. Why represent it??? Isn’t that a contradiction? I live in the hood too, but I don’t represent it! Why should I?
5. How is NYOIL bragging about killing his brothers? He is NOT bragging! This is anger he feels, but he’s using it to get a message across that people will listen and WAKE UP! However, a lot of you can’t open your minds! NYOIL didn’t come here to blast you out; He wants you to see what’s really going on! Also, don’t put him in the same category with these fake rappers like Cam’ron, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and others.
6. Those of you who brought NYOIL’s mother into this should be ASHAMED of yourselves! That is the resort of immaturity, and limited intelligence! Yet, you call him a crybaby? From experience and observance, only crybabies would go after someone’s mom in the name of ignorance! There’s another word for people like that: punks. If that fits you, then get mad all you want and curse me out to prove my point!
7. Have ANY of you bothered to do research about NYOIL or bothered to check out any of his other videos? NYOIL visited a school to talk to young children, he joined a march, and he made this album. What are ya’ll doing? This brotha is trying to change things, but it’s a DAMN shame you don’t see it!
8. It is mentioned that NYOIL defends what he said and that no one should try to reinterpret it. My questions are: What did he say exactly?
I see people spewing hatred for a brotha that’s trying to wake people up. I see the same few people bitterly blasting this brother with no plausable reason! I can tell that those few are ready to blast me for blasting thim. Well, go ahead. Why? Because I SUPPORT NYOIL! I support his message and his mission! Whether you feel alright about it or NOT is none of my concern. Before you claim that I must be a thug, rapper or high school drop-out, and I have deep feeling that you will, I am NOT a rapper, I am NOT a thug, and I am a COLLEGE GRADUATE. I am an EDUCATED BLACK MAN WHO ADORES BLACK WOMEN. If I’m still wrong for that, then it makes me wonder who is REALLY posting in this forum. Only God knows for sure, even if you lie.
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day.
Typical.
Someone bluntly states a problem about his own and what do we do? Get all defensive and start attacking him. NYOil is right! Bill Cosby has been and is right!
The truth is bitter.
Our brothas need to get their acts together and stop blaming “structural issues”. All we do is whine and cry. This is holding me down, that is holding me down, the white man is holding me down. Whatever! The powers that be will never like us, the white man is not obligated to like or help us. That will never change, so crying about it for eternity is futile.
We glorify the worst. We ridicule excellence. We do not treat our women like the queens that they are. Then when someone like NyOil says it, you folks start to castigate him. Well YOU ARE WRONG! His message is RIGHT!
Brothas who are slipping need to do what I did; got an education, speak my only language (English) properly, got a job and married me a beautiful sista! Goal: To build a strong black family with a Father and Mother, since they seem to be non -existent these days. Oh wait, let me not go there. Someone might attack me and spew some modern-progressive BS that a single mom is good enough. Hasn’t worked for the past 50+ yrs has it?
I’m done.
